Hittite

The Languages of Ancient Anatolia is a seminarium focused on the linguistic diversity of Ancient Anatolia. Its reading group, Reading Hittite, meets monthly to explore the rich corpus of documents preserved from Hattuša, the great 'Upper City' and capital of the Nešili - or Hittites.

Prerequisites: The fundamentals of Hittite syntax and morphology will be covered but attendees should already have experience of either an old Indo-European language or Akkadian/Sumerian. Texts are offered in narrow transcription - cuneiform signs will be taught extra curriculum.

Date and Time: Once a month. First session: Friday 20 March 2026, 1pm-3pm
